HASLEMERE commemorated the 70th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe with a service at the town's war memorial last Friday.
Boys from Haslemere Prep School joined townsfolk and civic dignitaries standing in respect.
Mayor Penny Bradley gave a short address, saying: "On VE Day in 1945 millions of people across the UK shared an unprecedented moment of relief and euphoria that the war in Europe was over.
"However, so many members of the armed forces never came home, including the people named on our own war memorials."
There was a two-minute silence to honour the dead before Mrs Bradley said: "We in Haslemere are honoured to play our part in helping the nation mark 70 years since the end of the Second World War in Europe.
"There will be three days of celebrations, which will pay fitting tribute to all those who did so much to defend this country."
