RETIRED colleagues from Launceston Retained Fire Service met recently at Eagle House Hotel, Launceston, for Sunday lunch.

This was the first event of its kind in Launceston, and was organised by Charles Spettigue.

A total of 19, including wives, enjoyed reminiscing times past with humourous anecdotes from their time in the brigade. Some 226 years of experience were represented by the 10 ex-firemen around the table, two of whom had served more than 30 years each.

The firemen present were pleased to see their colleagues and spend a few hours together. One of the men commented: "This is like a family gathering."
