THE children of Highampton Area Pre School, in Beaworthy, enjoyed a trip to Hatherleigh Fire Station and another to a local sheep farm.
The first in their duo of trips was a visit to Hatherleigh Fire Station where the children were shown a new fire engine.
The children were allowed to sit inside the engine and try on real uniforms whilst pretending to put out a pretend fire with the water hose.
The fire officers were great with the children and took their time to explain how the equipment on the engine helps them to do their jobs.
They were also very patient, allowing every child the opportunity to point and turn on the water hose from the fire engine.
It was said to be a day to remember for all the children and some may even think about becoming fire fighters in the future, or maybe, they will become farmers after their second trip to a sheep farm.
Owned by Ian and Jenny Harris, the children were invited to their farm to see the ewes with their new lambs.
Some of the lambs had only been born that morning and it was a great experience for the children to see.
They were able to ask Ian and Jenny lots of questions and learned all about sheep farming.
They enjoyed giving bottles to a pair of very hungry orphaned lambs and then had fun in the straw before enjoying a drink and snack of homemade cakes whilst sitting on the hay bales.
There’s lots more fun to come for the children of Highampton Area Pre-School, as later this term they will be visiting Paignton Zoo, having a sports day, and will have their own vintage carousel at an end of term party.
