DESPITE the cold wind and threat of rain, the Advent Horse and Dog Show, held next to Crowdy Reservoir on Bank Holiday Monday, was very well attended by competitors of all ages. There were 136 entries in the showjumping, tack and turnout, working hunter and fancy dress classes, and the numerous competitors in the gymkhana classes also had a great time. There was a strong showing in both the pedigree and novelty dog show categories, with a total of 191 class entries. Sky, owned by Peter Williams, and Alfie, owned by Val, were the winners in the respective class 'best in show; competitions. Show secretary Kathy Dugard said: "It was great to see a large number of happy dogs of all shapes and sizes and their owners, as well as families and friends. "A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped before, during and after the show." For the full report, and a round-up of the area news and sport, see this week's edition of the Post.
