THE team at Tintagel Castle swapped the castle for beach cleaning recently, as they tidied up Tintagel Castle’s local beach.

Merlin certainly would have been proud as the team from English Heritage took the ‘beach clean baton’ and cleaned up Castle Beach on Tuesday, October 22.

Under the watchful eye of the ever-present ‘Merlin’s Cave’, and beneath the fantastic scenery of the castle and its new footbridge sweeping across the island, the team took on a beach clean to ensure the ancient Cornish beach was nice and tidy for both visitors and the environment, borrowing kit from the local Love Trebarwith Beach Clean Group.

Bek Stratfield, from Love Trebarwith Beach Clean Group, was delighted with the team’s efforts, and said: “So today the English Heritage staff at Tintagel Castle took the beach clean baton and cleaned up at Castle Beach. Well done, guys — thank you for helping the environment and to keep our local beaches beautiful!”

Penny Powers, part of the English Heritage team at Tintagel Castle, organised the beach clean and said: “The Haven is a beautiful and important part of Tintagel. It is well loved by the local community and we want to make sure it is kept at its best. The whole team really got stuck into the beach clean and enjoyed it so much that we will be making it a regular event in our staff calendar — and we will be sharing our findings with the Marine Conservation Society to help protect this special place.”
