Warbstow Primary Academy recently held a Community Tree Planting Day in their school as they work towards achieving a Green Tree School Award with the Woodland Trust.
The school and parent volunteers worked to be able to get the community involved in the project after they were granted a ‘Tree Pack’ from the Woodland Trust — containing around 400 trees.
Around 40 to 45 people turned out for the day’s planting, which was made up of staff, pupils, parents and members of the public.
The school wanted to plant trees around their new bike track to make it look more appealing as well as it being a benefit to the environment and the local wildlife.
Parent volunteer, Katie Webb who organised the Community Tree Planting Day said: “It was a great way to get the community involved with the school and for the children to learn about nature and its surroundings.
“In the end we planted 350 trees and willow whips, which we are growing as hedging and create an amazing place for the children and to encourage wildlife. All saplings were given to the school by the Woodland Trust.
“We are hopeful of being awarded a Green Tree School Award and must thank everyone that came out to help and headteacher Mr Ellis for allowing us to go ahead and do this.”
