THE children at Bradford Primary School are delighted with six new Apple iPads from the generosity of The Balsdon Trust who granted £1,000 towards the cost.
The Friends of Bradford School (FOBS) also granted £709.91 to support the project from recent fundraising events.
Caroline Hawking, FOBS treasurer, who applied for the grant, said: “The school approached FOBS for some assistance in upgrading the technology in the school, so that the pupils could log on quicker and increase their knowledge around using iPads, including internet safety and research.
“By using the iPads daily their skills will be developed in readiness for their transition to secondary school. We are so grateful to The Balsdon Trust for their donation, so that the children can benefit immediately and make a difference within their education.”
Following the purchase of the iPads one of the pupils said: “I love them as they are so quick to turn on and much easier to use than the old laptops.”
Class 2 teacher Miss Southam said: “Since receiving the iPads, children in Class 2 have been using them on a daily basis to support their learning. The children have been using a variety of maths games to improve their fluency and confidence in their mental maths. The older children have also been using them in English lessons to support and improve their writing, as well as being able to access the internet immediately for research.
“We will also be able to use them to improve the children’s understanding of video technology, to create and edit their own videos. We are incredibly grateful for the funding which allowed FOBS to buy the iPads for Class 2.”
Lia Freeburn, representative from The Balsdon Trust, said: “The Trustees of The Balsdon Trust were happy to be able to contribute to the continuing education of the current and future pupils of Bradford Primary School.”
