CHILDREN at Bude Primary Academy have been working hard to do jobs at home to fundraise for Little Harbour Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).
As part of their Helping Hands Week, many infant and junior children were paid by family and friends to do chores like washing up the dishes, hoovering, setting the dinner table and even feeding a hedgehog in the garden. Echoing the traditional ‘Bob a Job’ of years past, the Bude school community raised a mighty £1,200.
Shared out across each class, the children selected lots of Christmas presents that they wanted to buy for the children and families who attend the hospice. With the remaining funds, Bude Primary Academy aims to purchase in the new year the entire wish list of sensory toys the hospice requires — vital equipment that will be used time and time again by the children in their care.
Assistant head and early years lead at Bude Primary Academy, Anne Garrad said: “We want to thank all of our children and families for their hard work and generosity. Alice from the hospice was overwhelmed when she saw the mountain of toys. We hope that it helps to bring smiles to the faces of those who receive them.”
Alice Merrett of Children’s Hospice South West, commenting on behalf of all the care team at Little Harbour, said: “We are absolutely astounded by the kindness and generosity of all the children and their families from Bude Primary Academy.
“You have demonstrated a true understanding of the meaning of Precious Lives.
“We cannot thank you enough for your amazing donation.”
