IT WAS cuteness galore at this year’s Launceston Show, as the Margaret Green Animal Rescue dog show saw playful pups, professional show dogs and mature, majestic veterans take to the ring.
The Post just couldn’t resist staying to watch one class take place, which was the Best Youngster up to 18 months category. As judges welcomed puppies into the ring with their owners, the young pooches took their places to compete.
However, it was anything but ‘calm’ and ‘sensible’, as some of the youngsters rolled around in the grass, pounced on other puppies or gazed lovingly up at their owners in the hope for a sweet-smelling treat — showing what a true fun family dog show this really is, year-on-year.
After much deliberation and many squeals of laughter from the growing audience, judges crowned five-month-old Meeko as their winner of the class, who was congratulated with a cuddle from owner, Allan, a treat and a bag of goodies, courtesy of Homeleigh Garden Centre.
Meeko, who was shown by Allan Tyler from Hallworthy, is a German white haired pointer, and at just five months, is already looking at a promising future in fun dog shows.
Owners, Allan and his wife Vanessa, who also showed Meeko’s brother in the class, were delighted with their puppy’s success. Although they don’t plan on entering any professional shows or competitions any time soon, they said they wanted to enter their dogs at Launceston Show for the fun factor. Allan said: “It’s only a bit of fun!”
He added: “He did very well, he’s done us very proud.”
Vanessa told the Post that Meeko does, in fact, come from a Crufts breeding line, but the couple has no certain plans for Meeko to become a Crufts dog.
