A?MAN, who was driving to help celebrate his mother’s 70th birthday, was tragically killed following a collision on the A30.

Wendy Trewin of Delabole has paid tribute to her son, Darren, who was travelling from his home in Swindon to see his family in Cornwall.

Mr Trewin, aged 49, was involved in a single vehicle collision on the A30 near Sourton just before 4.40pm on Tuesday, January 31. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger of the car, a 49-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital, Plymouth where she was treated for her injuries.

Mrs Trewin said: “This tribute is about my son, who was killed on January 31, one hour after speaking to me on the phone, telling me he was on the way and would not be long.

“We were going to have a lovely family get together to celebrate my 70th birthday on February 1. He was a wonderful son, always looking out for me, although he lived near Swindon and I live in Cornwall.

“Darren lived with his partner, Laura, who were total soul mates and did everything together, and never stopped chittering to each other. Darren was a fantastic uncle, always joking around with his brother’s children, as he was a big kid at heart.

“His life was full of fun and adventure, where many lifelong friendships were made. Darren will be very sorely missed by everyone that knew him. He leaves behind a loving family who cannot express the devastation they feel.

“Rest in God’s safe keeping until we meet again.”

Police said that at the time of the collision, it was raining heavily and visibility was reduced.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them via [email protected] or by calling 101, quoting log number 0514 310117.
