A CORONER has returned a verdict of "accidental death" on the mother who drowned while trying to rescue one of her sons from a rip current on a Bude beach last year.
Alison Tooby, 52, from Wellington, Somerset, died at Northcott Mouth Beach, near Bude, last September.
Ms Tooby had made the "frantic effort" to save her son herself as seasonal lifeguard cover on the beach had stopped the previous day.
North Devon coroner John Tomalin recorded a verdict of accidental death, saying it was "an unfortunate set of circumstances."
