The Launceston branch of the Royal British Legion will be making full use of its recently refurbished Edymead Hall on Tower Street to put on a special event this Armed Forces Day.

The day will start with the traditional mark of respect, with members of the branch, and any others who wish to join, meeting at the base of Launceston Castle at 9am for a 9.15am start. The flag will then be raised and a silence held.

Afterwards, all are invited back to Edymead Hall from 10am to 2pm where they can enjoy some refreshments and place their bids in a special charity blind auction.

Launceston Royal British Legion’s chairman Paul Oliver said: “Armed Forces Day takes place each year on the last Saturday in June. It is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces Community which includes those currently serving, their families, veterans and cadets. Our town is not a ‘super garrison’ but there are many members of the Armed Forces Community here and you would be more than welcome to join them for a very brief flag-raising ceremony in the Castle grounds on Saturday, June 29, at 0900hrs. Afterwards, you could join us for tea, coffee and a chat at Edymead Hall.”

Silent auction lots include an original painting by Tom Robbins, some beautiful handmade cushions, Remembrance themed items and much more.

Bids can be emailed to [email protected] (to be opened on the day) or pop into the Saturday or Wednesday coffee morning and use the ballot box. Entries must clearly state the lot number, name of entrant and contact number.
