AN eight-year-old girl from Launceston has raised almost £400 for a cancer charity by cycling ten miles around the local area.

Darcey Garland, a pupil at St Catherine’s C of E School in Launceston, has raised £395 for the charity Bowel Cancer UK after cycling ten miles in and around the Launceston area.

Her mother, Claire, was delighted with her eight-year-old daughter’s decision to fundraise for a charity the family are passionate about.

“My dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer earlier in the year,” Claire said. “So we thought, let’s try and do something positive out of a negative!”

On Saturday, September 15, Darcey set off from Launceston, travelling down through Upper Chapel, through Tregadillett, round the back roads to South Petherwin and back to Launceston again — racking up a total of ten miles. Claire added: “We are just so proud of her!”
