AN 'extremely loud' voice is the main quality for anyone hoping to become Kingsteignton's first official town crier.

They will also need excellent diction, imaginative subject cries and creativity when giving a performance.

The town council has put out an appeal for people to apply for the position, which is described as high profile and voluntary.

Clerk Carol Lakin said: 'The successful applicant will be an ambassador for the town, supporting civic, charity and other commercial events.

'A full uniform will be provided free of charge by Kingsteignton Town Council including, of course, the bell.'
