A Bodmin man has been given a two-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, and made subject to a community order after admitting strangling his partner and engaging in coercive behaviour.
Aiden Drew, aged 30, from Grass Valley Park, pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court.
The court heard he lived in Lostwithiel between May 2021 and March 2024 when he isolated his victim from friends, financially controlled her, prevented her attending her GP and going to work, and was repeatedly violent towards her.
He prevented his partner from accessing her phone and social media accounts, assaulted her in December 2021 and strangled her in March 2024.
Drew was handed a five-year restraining order and told not to contact his victim.
