AT the Full Ross-on-Wye Town Council Meeting on Monday, June 8th, Councillor Richard Mayo put forward a motion to cut the grass in public areas such as along the river front, before the land falls back into the responsibility of the Town Council.

Cllr Mayo was away on holiday during the time of the Full Council Meeting, so Cllr Phil Cutter read a statement from Cllr Mayo. He said the current regime of grass cutting by Herefordshire Council in the Caroline Symonds Gardens, the Rope Walk, Long Acre and Crossfields is not frequent enough.

Cllr Cutter argued, that other towns, such as Monmouth, look immaculate, and the long untidy grass in Ross is having a detrimental effect, in terms of tourism.

He reminded the council that these assets are due to be transferred from Herefordshire Council to Ross Town Council in the near future.

He proposed that the Town Council should instruct their grounds contractor to begin cutting the grass at these locations with immediate effect, and not to wait until the assets are transferred.
