A?CAMELFORD student has been elected onto Camelford Town Council, and at 18 years of age, he is the county’s youngest councillor, and possibly the youngest in the country.

Adam stood as a Conservative Party candidate and was elected unopposed.

Adam has been interested in politics for a couple of years and campaigned with North Cornwall MP Scott Mann in the run-up to the general election.

He learnt of the position on the town council a few weeks ago. “There was a place so I got told I could run as the Conservative party candidate. When I received the letter telling me I was elected I felt quite glad about it. It’s quite big for me as an 18-year-old to be a town councillor.

“I’m likely to be the youngest in Cornwall and highly possibly that I’m the youngest in the country.”

Asked what he would be bringing to the council table, Adam said: “I’m hoping to bring a new perspective really. Hopefully I’ll have some new ideas and I’ll have a different world view.”

Adam moved to Camelford from Bolton, Manchester five years ago. He is currently studying A Level Business Studies, Maths and Politics at Truro College.

Adam will attend his first council meeting tonight (Thursday).
