THE village of Lifton is celebrating after being awarded a cheque for £360 from the Waitrose Community Matters scheme.

The cheque, which will form part of the funding package needed to build a much-needed multi-use community hall in the village, was presented at the Okehampton store by Waitrose staff member Sonia to representatives from Lifton Community Centre and Okehampton Conservative Devon County Councillor Kevin Ball.

The community centre team are also about to submit their stage two Big Lottery Fund application and will know within four months whether they have got through to the third and final stage for funding.
