COMMUNITY groups across the area are being encouraged to apply for one-off funding from the Forest of Dean District Council.

They have announced that the 2015/16 community grants programme is open, and that not-for-profit organisations can apply for a share of £319,800. Constituted and non constituted groups are both allowed to apply.

Last year the community grants paid for a wide variety of goods and services, including community noticeboards, riding hats, musical instruments, computer software and community sensory gardens.

Successful organisations ranged from lunch and support groups to recreation ground and village hall committees and groups of neighbours.

Tess Tremlett, community engagement manager at Forest of Dean District Council said: "This is a real chance for local money to go to the community for projects which local people want to happen. They are aimed at building the capacity of the community rather than directly delivering services. We are particularly keen to receive applications from small informal groups."

Application packs are available from the district council website at http://www.fdean">www.fdean. gov.uk - go to the 'Community and Living' section and select 'Community Grants'.

Alternatively interested groups can contact the community engagement team on 01594 812617. The closing date for applications is July 15 at 4pm.
