REPRESENTATIVES from the community, local business and local councils came together this afternoon to mark the re-election of Launceston’s mayor.
People packed town hall to celebrate the mayor choosing ceremony which saw Cllr Helen Bailey re-elected in the role this afternoon (May 16)
Cllr Bailey will now continue her work in the role for the 2024/25 duration.
In her proposal, Cllr Nicola Gilbert praised Cllr Bailey’s hard work over the last 12 months, emphasising her commitment to her role despite also ‘spinning multiple plates’ balancing work, family and mayoral duties.
As well as marking the re-election of the mayor and deputy, the event also saw Cllr Bailey announce her chosen charities for this year. They included the continued support of men’s mental health charity Man Down, and the new selection of Launceston Youth Music Theatre, which recently celebrated its first anniversary and hopes to offer young people access to the performing arts.
Finally, cheques were presented to both Man Down and Launceston Leisure Centre following the fundraising efforts in the last year.
