The Camelford committee of Cancer Research UK held their annual general meeting recently in the Fore Street Methodist Church where several awards were handed out.

The chairman, Ang Goodman, welcomed everyone to the meeting, especially Kim Hammerton – relationship manager.

Ang commented on the death of Pam Boundy earlier this year. Pam was a founder member years ago and had been the original honorary secretary until she succeeded Mr Edwin Jukes as chairman.

She was a hard-working member for over 40 years.

Ang then invited everyone to stand and observe a minute’s silence in Pam’s memory.

Honorary Secretary Madge Walkey reported on the year’s activities.

The committee were all delighted that they could get back to fundraising again after the enforced break due to COVID.

Madge said the committee were indebted to countless individuals and organisations who support them throughout the year and to the residents of Camelford and district for their unfailing support.

Pam concluded her remarks by thanking the local press for publishing the charity’s events.

Honorary treasurer, Sally Moore, gave a very detailed financial report and then presented Kim with a cheque for £10,600 – this amount although smaller than usual for an AGM cheque presentation, brought great satisfaction to committee members as it enabled them to exceed their target figure of £400,000 by the end of their 45th year of fundraising.

In accepting the cheque, Kim congratulated the committee members on a wonderful achievement. She thanked them for all their efforts and also thanked the local residents for the support they gave to Cancer Research UK.

Ang, Sally and Madge were then re-elected as officers and Enid Andrews, Nicky Hill, Karina Lee-Edmonds, Pam Lyons, Lynn Oliver, Jan Stratfield and Jennifer Wood were re-elected to serve on the committee.

Kim gave a very comprehensive and informative resume of the research currently being funded by Cancer Research UK.

Pam Lyons was presented with her five years’ service award and certificate which she was not able to receive last year.

Lynn Oliver, who was unable to attend the meeting, was due to receive her 25 years’ service award and certificate, so that presentation will take place at a later date.

Ang, Sally and Madge received their 45 years’ service awards and certificates, which brought the meeting to a close.
