Bude Golf Club hosted the inaugural Friends of Bude Sea Pool charity trophy event on Friday, September 22, raising an amazing £1,885.
This annual event was set in motion this year by Bude Golf Club senior section stalwart Chris Cannon to celebrate the life of his wife, Gill Cannon, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
Gill was keen on golf and was a passionate supporter, committee member and trustee of the sea pool after a varied career that included a great deal of work with charities.
The event was well-supported by local sponsors and a host of three-ball teams playing for a range of prizes as well as the ultimate team prize, The Gill Cannon Trophy.
The trophy went to Rob Cox, Chris Trewin and Chris Kivell with an excellent score of 87 on the best two scores out of three being counted.
Gill’s love of life and fun was well-served on the day with scoring mishaps, a visiting team playing up the out of bounds practice area instead of the 18th fairway and the usual lost balls leading to hilarity in the clubhouse post match.
There were emotional speeches afterwards and thanks went out to both the personal sponsors, the generosity of local business sponsors that supported the event, to the club, the grounds staff and to Exclusive catering.
Everyone concerned is looking forward to the 2024 tournament.
