Treknow Village Garden Club Show was held on Saturday, July 24.
A most enjoyable afternoon was spent by garden club members and visitors looking at the varied exhibits and enjoying a catch up on news over refreshments and cake. Exhibitors varied in age from mid seventies down to young children.
In the childrens class, a monster created from your fruit bowl was won by Anna Marie Gomez for the nought to five years category and Caitlan May for the six to twelve year old classes. She also won first for her decorated cup cake.
Anna Marie was also awarded first for her drawing, giving her enough points to win the cup for the best overall entrant in the nought to five years.
Alice Fletcher created a clowns face and won the nought to five year old class with Cadan May taking the six to twelve year old age group. He also received first place for his drawing and was placed in other classes gaining the most points overall for his age group. Mary Dowling was awarded first prize for her decorated cup cake in the nought to fives.
In the adult art and handicraft class Phyllis Farrant won first for her beautiful cross stitch and Rod Coopers photograph of a sunset was voted best.
Caitlan May took first place for a flower arrangement in a wine glass and Val Cooper won with her arrangement of red and pink flowers and foliage, and also took first for three blooms same colour, different variety.
Eddie May produced the best single rose and the best three potatoes. The best three sweet peas were grown by Robin Stokeley and his wife Joan grew the best courgettes. Although no-one managed to ripen standard size tomatoes, Viv McKay had the best cherry tomatoes.
The longest runner bean was grown by David Pickthorne and the wonkiest vegetable by Janet Douglas. The best three beetroots were entered by Vanessa Lackford and the best house plant by Wendy Bradshaw. In the cooking classes, Cadan May outshone everyone by cooking the best Cornish pasty and Phyllis Farrant made the best Cornish splits.
The committee would like to thank all those who took part and contributed to making it such an enjoyable afternoon.
Treknow Village Garden Club meets on the fourth Friday of the each month at Treknow Village Hall. The next meeting will be September 24, when Kit Lindsay will be talking about orchids and their care. Visitors and new members are always welcome.
