A WELSH coffee chain's plans to open a store in Brecon have left a bitter taste in people's mouths.
Coffee#1, which is owned by Welsh brewers Brains, plans to open an outlet in the former Blockbusters shop, which has been empty since 2013, in Brecon town centre.
The move has stirred anger amongst local business prompting a petition intended to prevent the chain opening in the market town.
An application for change of use planning permission has been submitted to the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority which began a public consultation on May 12. This will close on June 1.
The anonymous organisers behind the petition have counted 32 places in the town which already provide hot drinks. Two other established coffee outlets have closed in the town centre in the past six months.
