Triple-hatted Cllr Chris Clarance, who retained his seat in Shaldon and Stokeinteignhead, said: 'This was about local politics and we have delivered.

'There is a lot to look forward to in the Teignmouth and Shaldon area in the future.

'I worked hard for the community and I think I've picked up a cracking vote.'

He has now been in local politics for 31 years, and said: 'I'm 68 now and being kept busy in my retirement.'

He joined his parish council in 1984, Teignbridge Council in 2003 and Devon County Council 2009.
