Span Arts Classical Series returns on Thursday, May 7, with Cellini, an exciting and unusual cello quartet led by Haverfordwest born Kyle Patterson, at Hotel Plas Hyfryd, Narberth.

This unique ensemble is made up of four versatile, accomplished and vastly experienced cellists, all with strong links to Pembrokeshire, or Wales.

The quartet's unique and varied programming offers a chronological path through numerous periods, genres and composers delivering an array of musical styles and sounds. The programme includes works by Albinoni, Teleman, Mozart, Borodin and Elgar, followed after the interval by more contemporary works by McCartney, Albeniz, Loveland and Graham, and ending with a Welsh Medley arranged by Kyle.

Kyle Patterson was born in Haverfordwest and studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He has a wealth of experience as an orchestral player having performed with Welsh National Opera, The National Symphony Orchestra, Welsh Sinfonia, British Sinfonietta, British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Bristol Ensemble and Sinfonia Cymru.

Nicola Thomas was privileged to take several lessons and master classes with Jacqueline Du Pre and has played extensively with the London Mozart Players, The Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, and others with whom she toured major venues in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Tokyo, among others.

Karina Andreou graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2000. She is also part of the Cwm Cerwyn ensembles, playing piano or cello and regularly plays the cello in bands for youth and amateur dramatic shows in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire.

Beatrice Newman completed her MA in cello performance on scholarship from the Royal Academy of Music in 2013, having studied with Guy Johnston. She is now a member of the London Chamber Ensemble and is on the Live Music Now scheme with Bethan Semmens and the Laurent Quartet.
