FINAL preparations are being made for the arrival of the WI Centenary Baton in North Cornwall — scheduled to take pride of place at Camelford, Jacobstow and Bude this weekend.

The baton will be picked up from Wadebridge Town Hall on Saturday, February 21 and taken in two classic Morris Minor four-door saloons — a black 1955 split-screen and a white 1958 model to represent the colours of the Cornish flag.

En route it will be transferred to a 1914 Model T Ford, which is representing the same age as the WI. All three cars will then proceed to Camelford for the handing over of the baton.

They will arrive at the top of Camelford at approximately 1.15pm.

Camelford WI secretary Diane Taylor said the cars will be decked in the WI's green and white ribbons and will drive in procession to the bandstand by Enfield Park where they will be met by town mayor Cllr Andy Shaw.

WI members, including those from branches in the Camelot Group, will then proceed to the Methodist Chapel where there will be light refreshments for invited guests and a display of old photographs and archive material relating to the WI.

From Camelford the baton will be taken to Jacobstow for 3.30pm where a specially decorated tractor, to be driven by Amy Osborne, will lead members in procession to the parish hall.
