BUDE Chess restarted the year with a bang, being visited by grandmaster John Nunn, formerly seeded ninth in the world, for a session on winning the endgame in chess.

He demonstrated the winning technique with a series of questions and answers, and the members learnt much that will be useful to them in their future games.

It was also the first night that the club met in their new venue.

They now meet at the British Legion on Burn View. This provides them with good playing facilities along with a well-equipped kitchen where teas and coffees can be made.

The junior club met prior to the main session and parents were able to relax on comfortable sofas and chairs while their children were playing and learning. The juniors stayed on for part of John Nunn’s talk.

The club has entered teams in three competitions in the Cornwall League, providing inter-club competition for the members.

Players of all standards are welcome at the club, including beginners and those coming back to chess after many years.
