SOME exciting changes are coming to this year’s Marhamchurch Revel, near Bude.

That’s according to this year’s secretary, Rachel Wilce, who is looking forward to the series of events.

She told the Post: “We have made some changes to this year’s revel, and we think people should know about it!

“It’s obviously a very traditional event, and normally our revel queen would be crowned by Old Father Time. But this year the royalty crowning will take place in the revel field, escorted by attendants.”

The revel queen for this year is Mia Luxton, who will be attended by maids, marshals, flower girls and paige boys.

Although this year will be ‘more compact’, the event will still include the traditions loved by many in the community, including the annual pram race and hog roast provided at the Bullers Arms.

But a change for this year will be a new art show and fun dog show.

Rachel said: “We’re hoping for a really good show, with a lot of people coming to show their support.”

Amongst a long list of local causes to be supported by this year’s revel include the church, Brownies, pre-school and toddler groups, the WI, Marhamchurch bell ringers and the Scouts and Cubs.

People are also being encouraged to donate what they can to the bric-a-brac, book and plant stalls — whether that’s toys and games, a variety of plants and unwanted books, fruit and vegetables and other treats.

The dog show will take place on Sunday, July 29, with participants required to pay a £1 entry fee for each dog. People can come along, bring a deck chair to sit and watch the event, and take part in a great selection of categories with their pooches.

Rachel added: “I’m quite excited. We’ve had a good summer so far; we only hope it will continue.”

This year’s Marhamchurch Revel will take place on Monday, August 13.
