DELABOLE Methodist Church celebrated its 154th anniversary on Sunday, March 12.
The day began with an 11am service, led by Mrs Sue Ede, followed by a celebration roast beef dinner in the Sunday School, where around 50 people gathered from the village and the surrounding area to enjoy a lovely meal prepared by the ladies of the church.
It was then time to depart for some fresh air to walk off the lunch and be ready for Songs of Praise at 6pm, where people came along and picked their favourite hymns, which were played by Stewart Biddick on the piano, and Maria Nicholls on the organ.
The stars of the show, the Nankersey Male Voice Choir, took to the stage to entertain the audience, which they did in great style.
Some items included Bring Him Home (Arr John Leavitt), the Lord’s Prayer (Arr Albert Hay Malatte), and American Trilogy (Arr Mickey Newbury adap Alwyn Humpheys).
The guest soloist for the evening was Roger Nicholls from Boscastle, who gave the crowd outstanding entertainment, so much so that they wanted even more and rejoiced when he entertained in full flow once more. The choir’s motto is ‘to sing and give pleasure’.
The evening closed with a Cornish supper, before members of the Nankersey headed back to their home on the opposite side of the harbour, to Falmouth.
An enjoyable and entertaining evening was had by all.
