TWO staff members at a secondary school have been celebrated for their long service after marking a quarter of a century each in roles helping to educate the town’s youth, past and present.

The duo at Launceston College, part of Athena Learning Trust, have marked the occasion working at the college for a massive 25 years this month.

Sherry Symons works in the student support team, helping and supporting some of Launceston’s most vulnerable young people. She has a particular impact on students with Special Educational Needs who she has worked extremely closely with over the years, ensuring that they thrive in education by giving them the support they need. She lives locally in Launceston with her husband, Mark.

Tim Naylor works in the design technology department as a technician and began his time at college as a learning support assistant. Tim has two children who attended Launceston College, both of whom have been clearly influenced by their father as one has a Masters in the design field and the other a degree apprenticeship with defence giant Babcock. He spends his free time fishing at Crawley reservoir.

Both Sherry and Tim were delighted to receive gifts and cards from their colleagues marking their 25 years of dedicated service.

Mr Matthew Thompson, principal at Launceston College, said: “Everyone at Launceston College wants to thank Sherry and Tim for their commitment to the college over the last 25 years. They have literally helped generations of local children! Sherry is such a valued colleague as well as being kind, reliable and a wonderful baker. The huge impact she has had on the lives of the students she helps is immeasurable.

“Tim is outstanding at everything he does in the department and is super approachable to all; so many members of staff across college rely on him for his expertise and friendship. That both of them have stayed at the college so long is a testament to what a special place it is. I am so proud of the warm and supportive environment that staff and students create here.”
