To celebrate British Science Week, St. Stephen’s Community Academy were delighted to welcome a range of people who use science every day in their job into the school.
The school had parent volunteers visit to teach the children all about their work. Richard Howlett a physiotherapist, Jenny Houghton a veterinary nurse , Jasmine, a dental nurse from Archway Dental Surgery and Sophie Moore from South West Water all attended, leading informative, interactive and inspiring sessions.
Maura Furber, headteacher at the school, said: “A huge thank you to our parent volunteers! Celebrating the diverse people and careers in science and engineering helps to show our pupils what job opportunities there are for them in today’s world.
“The theme this year was ‘Connections’ - our visitors have certainly shown the children the endless possibilities using science as a pathway to connect to future careers.
“Being able to inspire the children is such a valuable and rewarding part of our job, so a huge thank you to Mrs Walsh, our science lead, for co-ordinating these fantastic visitors.
“We now have a lot of young people who are keen to follow in their footsteps.”
