Seven members of staff from Kernow House care home in Launceston have won the Fundraising Group of the Year in the Huntington’s Disease Association Award.
The group were nominated for the award after taking part in a fundraising walk up Snowdon on October 24, 2021.
On the day, the wind blew up to 60 miles an hour, so the guide who led the group decided to call the climb off for safety reasons.
They still managed to raise an impressive £1,700 for Huntington’s Disease Association.
The Snowdon Hikers all work at Kernow House on Millaton, where residents who live with Huntington’s Disease reside.
The hikers are: Ali Quirk, carer; Gosia Malgorzata, carer; Jade Coole, care practitioner; Sharon Wilkes, nurse; Rachel Yole, carer; Jo Vine, care practitioner; and Morgana Griffin, senior carer.
The Huntington’s Disease Association Awards are organised by the HDA.
Now in its seventh year, the 2022 awards took place during Huntington’s Disease Awareness Month at the Radisson Blu in Liverpool city centre.
Leigh Stanley, general manager for Kernow House said: “We are so proud to have not one but seven members of staff recognised for their commitment and for taking on this challenge.
“At Kernow House we employ dedicated and experienced people who consistently provide a high standard in quality of care for our residents and the Snowdon Hikers went above and beyond as a fundraising group.”
