THE campaign to save Camelford Leisure Centre from closure has stepped up a gear — with petitions being circulated, t-shirts and bags produced and even a bus to Truro for disgruntled residents to air their concerns at County Hall.
Since the news broke of the possible closure of the facility, the community have rallied round, ensuring that the campaign got off to a good start.
Mr Jonathan Holt, chairman of Camelford Forum, organised a 53- seater bus from the leisure centre to County Hall, Truro, yesterday (Wednesday) to let councillors — who will ultimately be making decision on any cuts — know how strongly people feel about the retention of the centre.
Mr Holt told the 'Post' that the aim of the trip was to discuss alternatives to closure, although he realised that the centre could not be sustained in its current state.
He also came up with the idea of SOS (Save our Sportscentre) t-shirts and bags to give added publicity to the campaign.
Over 800 people have signed a petition and over 1,500 have also joined the Facebook page dedicated to keeping the centre open.
See this week's 'Post' for a full report and comments made at the Camelford Forum and Town Council meetings.
