WORK will be taking place in the coming weeks to help improve the efficiency and experiences of customers at a leisure centre.
Camelford Leisure Centre has confirmed it has secured funding to spray-insulate the sports hall, add glazing to windows and improve the lighting.
A spokesperson for the leisure centre said: “Continuing with our commitment to being Cornwall's most energy efficient commercial Leisure Centre and one of the most energy efficient in the UK, we are delighted to have been successful in our grant application to the Growth Hub Shared Prosperity Fund.
“The works include spray insulating the sports hall ceiling, to add a second set of glazing to the high-rise windows and to improve the lighting to more energy efficient LED spot lamps. The sports hall can get very cold in the winter which can cause condensation issues when warm damp weather follows a cold snap – we are really hopeful the new insulation will help us manage that.
“We are extremely grateful that Ted Lowe, a long standing member, supporter and local electrician will be replacing the lights over the course of the week.
“Due to the works commencing, all classes in the Sports Hall will be suspended for one week, giving you all a well deserved break!
“Secondly, our issues regarding the ramp entrance are soon to be no more! We are in an extremely fortunate position that Jata Construction have taken the project on as Community Project and are working hard to get their suppliers on board to offer many of the materials we need at cost to help Camelford Leisure Centre.
“Work on the access ramp will start as soon as Friday, October 25. Rob and the team at Jata will be working 12-plus hour days to condense a three-week project into as shorter time span as possible. We hope to have the main work to the ramp completed over half term to minimise disruption. This will allow us to maintain wheelchair and buggy access to the pool through the Sports Hall.
“Much of the car park will be fenced off as it was for the previous build. Please can we ask as many of you as possible to park in the overflow car park leaving the space near the entrance for those who are less able.
“We would really like to thank Rob and the Jata team who have taken on a project that has already been very energy intensive and time consuming for them with a client that has a unique set of complex operating demands!
“Another huge thank you to Jonathan and Steve, two of our volunteer directors here at CLC. Jonathan especially has fought tirelessly for a solution to the building woes which will hopefully be resolved soon.”
