PECK-ISH Fish and Chips in Camelford has been declared the South West's top fish and chip shop by the National Fish & Chip Awards 2011.

Peck-ish Fish and Chips is one of 10 regional winners from across the UK to reach the final stages of the competition, having been shortlisted in the 'Best Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop Award' category.

Run by the restaurant's namesakes, Robert and Louise Peck, 'Peck-ish' goes to great lengths to source all its fish from sustainable sources. Cod and haddock come from Iceland, Norway, Russia and the Faroes; hake from the nutritious Antarctic currents, and pollock from off the Alaskan coast. Peck-ish holds a five star quality rating from Seafish.

In the 150th year of traditional fish and chips in the UK, the National Fish & Chip Awards serves as a showcase for excellence within the industry, which is constantly evolving to meet consumer demands.

The judges that visited Peck-ish Fish and Chips were focusing not only on taste, but also sustainability issues, species choice, staff training and development, promotional excellence, quality standards and innovation.

Peck Ish Fish and Chips will now batter it out to take top place and be named the nation's Best Independent Fish and Chip Shop. The winner will be announced at the grand final taking place in London on January 21, 2011.

Andy Gray, Customer Development Manager for Seafish commented: "Peck-ish Fish and Chips should be extremely proud to reach the last stage of the competition, as the top 10 fish and chip shops in the UK are the best of the best in their regions. The awards are now in their 23rd year and the competition continues to get tougher.

"As a nation, we love our fish and chips and this tasty takeaway has been firmly re-established as the country's favourite according to a recent poll. The standards are high, but there's still all to play for as our top 10 fryers compete to net the ultimate prize."
