A POPULAR North Cornwall agricultural show has been cancelled.
Organisers behind the Camelford Agricultural Show, held each year in the market town have announced they have ‘regrettably’ had to cancel this year’s show, citing an increase in prices leading to them not being in a position to proceed with this year’s event.
It marks the second year in a row that the show, a centre-piece in the Cornwall agricultural calendar is not able to go ahead, after last year’s event had to be cancelled due to wet weather.
While there won’t be an agricultural show in the town, the equally enjoyed handicraft and horticulture section will go ahead in a different location, with organisers promising more details to follow. A handicraft and horticulture event will take place on Wednesday, August 14, at Otterham Village Hall.
Organisers for the show have said that while this year’s event won’t be going ahead, they are planning ahead for its return next year.
They have said that despite the cancellation, they will focus on raising funds for the event to go ahead in addition to offering a range of smaller activities to ensure that come 2025, the show can return in a more ‘stable condition’.
Details on fundraisers and events are yet to be confirmed, they added.
A spokesperson for Camelford Agricultural Show said: “It is with much regret that we have had to postpone our 2024 Show. This decision has not been made lightly but last year’s wet weather cancellation plus this year’s rise in prices means that we are not in a position to go ahead this year.
“We will concentrate on fundraising and offering smaller activities this year to ensure that we are in a more stable position for our 2025 Show. The Handicraft and Horticulture section will go ahead on Wednesday, August 14, at Otterham Village Hall - more details to follow.
“We thank you for bearing with us through this difficult time and we look forward to seeing you at our fundraisers throughout the year. We will continue to post updates on our website and Facebook page.”
