IT took extra time to separate these two teams but it was somewhat ironic that the goal was scored only two minutes after normal time was up and so Gunnislake claimed the cup for only the second time in their history 23 years after their first success, writes Kevin Hoare.
Bere Alston's young team set about 'Gunny' in the opening period and they had a golden opportunity to take the lead when awarded a penalty but Ryan Richards had the spot kick saved by Jason Richmond in the Gunnislake goal and then he missed with his follow up shot with the goal gaping. Bere continued to press and during the game hit the crossbar twice but could not make the break through their play deserved.
Gunnislake were livelier in the second half and Mark Warwick squandered a good opportunity with a shot that flew past the post of an unguarded goal. The game became a little feisty as they moved towards full time.
In second minute of extra time Gunnislake scored, a good one two from Kelly set up Shane Maton and he calmly slid low shot wide of the Scot Harrison in the Bere goal. Bere were reduced to nine men but still continued to put up a good fight and continued to test the Gunny defence, which held its nerve to clinch the cup.
