CALLINGTON town crier Tony Stentiford helped volunteers collect over 100 boxes of food for the town’s foodbank at the local Tesco supermarket recently.
The three-day collection raised 1,341 kilograms of food, which Mr Stentiford called ‘amazing’.
He said: “This provides food — as well as food for thought — for the people of Callington.”
Foodbank manager, Pam Stephens, said: “Once again we have been overwhelmed by the generosity and support of the people of Callington and the surrounding areas. Our December collection weekend at Tesco Callington has helped to replenish our warehouse stock at a busy time of year. Thank you to the Tesco staff, our volunteers at the foodbank, and to everyone who donated to help locals in need.”
The Tesco store has hosted collections for the foodbank since 2011, and also has a permanent collection point which is emptied once a week and the items sorted into boxes by volunteers at the warehouse.
Store manager, Martin Hawkins, said: “It was a fantastic result. We would also like to express our thanks to our generous customers and all the helpers who made this collection such a success."
