THE recent spell of bad weather has given Callington Town Football Club an unexpected opportunity to get some much needed works on the pitches at the Ginsters Marshfield Parc.

The East Cornwall club, which has five adult teams and also supports three of the Callington Colts’ ten sides at their two pitch base in the community college, worked hard over the weekend of February 11-12 to bring both surfaces back to life.

Working with local company Pitchcare Guru under the management of Stephen Blatchford, club chairman, Steve Woolley, has overseen some surface work, which will hopefully give the pitch new life.

Mr Woolley said: "Both pitches have seen dozens of games in recent weeks and this can have a negative impact on the integrity of the grass. But with the help of Steve Blatchford and his company we have now got two surfaces that will help ensure we get the remaining games played during the 2016/17 season.”

The work was put to the test for the first time last Sunday morning as the club’s Veterans team hosted Perranporth in the Cornwall Leisure Veterans League.
