THE Holsworthy detachment of Devon Army Cadet Force (ACF) will be open to new recruits on Mondays, May 6 and 13.

The ACF is a voluntary youth organisation receiving sponsorship from the British Army allowing it to offer free loan of uniform (not boots) and subsidies on activities.

It is open to young people from 12 years of age and is a great place to make new friends build confidence and learn new and interesting skills that have real world value.

Recent successes include cadet Alex Girdler (14) who received his 1* training badge and LCpl Tremaine Boorman (15) his youth first aid certificate and badge.

Detachment senior Cpl Thane Sargent was awarded his senior 3* badge for which he had to successfully complete challenging military and adventurous training first aid and an instructor course.

Army Cadets can also complete the Duke of Edinburgh Award and get involved in the local community.

If anyone is interested in joining the ACF in Holsworthy visit armycadets.com and follow the “join as a cadet” links. Once new recruits have registered the detachment commander Lt Jim Harvey will make contact to discuss attendance.
