AN application for a Domino’s Pizza takeaway in Launceston has received the support of the town council’s planning and economic development committee.

The Post reported last week that Cornwall Council had received an application from the Pegasus Group on behalf of MSG Cornwall Ltd, which trades as Domino’s Pizza, to set up a hot food takeaway at Newport Square.

If granted, the application would change the use of the tanning salon and fitness studios and part of a convenience store.

Cllr Dave Gordon, a member of the town council’s planning committee, which met last Thursday, July 14, pointed out comments made on the application by Jason Drew on behalf of Environmental Health, who recommended a noise assessment and limit on external noise levels produced by fixed/plant machinery ‘in order to protect the amenity of residential properties’ be added as conditions to consent of the application.

Cllr Val Bugden-Cawsey said it was ‘going back to what it used to be’ — there used to be a Wimpy takeaway on the site.

Deputy mayor Cllr Margaret Young said: “It’s better than having an empty area. It will cheer up Newport Square a bit.”

It was agreed the town council supports the application ‘as long as the conditions recommended by Mr Drew of Environmental Health are implemented and enforced’.

The decision on the planning application will be taken by Cornwall Council.
