BURDON Grange Care Home in Highampton recently raised £1,500 for Children in Need, exceeding their previous fundraising efforts for the charity.

Over the last few years Burdon Grange has raised considerable sums of money for BBC Children in Need.

However, this year they raised an astonishing £1,500. This sum was achieved by a carefully planned effort, which lasted all week.

The fundraising campaign ensured that every one of the 30 residents who live with acquired brain injury, physical disabilities and long-term conditions were able to take part.

The residents went out in fancy dress, exchanging sweets for donations at local supermarkets, garden centres and markets, or joined in at the home on November 18, within an energised atmosphere.

Burdon Grange’s Children in Need week started on the Monday with two trips to Waitrose Okehamton, progressing on to Homeleigh Garden Centre and Tesco Launceston on Tuesday, Bideford Morrison’s on Wednesday, Wetherspoons and Okehampton Co-op on Thursday, before finally winding up at Tavistock Market and Morrisons on Friday.

The staff and residents of Burdon Grange are to be commended for maintaining their enthusiasm and energy levels throughout the hectic week; the total would not have been achieved without such commendable participation.

Thanks have also been extended to the establishments who welcomed the residents and staff, as well as members of the public who gave so generously and fed off the infectious enthusiasm of the care home’s ever cheerful and determined fundraising groups.
