LOOKING up at the cliff's edge, residents of Bude may now see something rather familiar looking, as the town’s Compass Point project nears completion.

At the start of the year, Bude-Stratton Town Council announced that it would be taking on the huge project of saving the town’s Storm Tower by relocating it 200 meters further in land.

The task would see a group of highly skilled workers deconstruct the iconic building brick by brick, numbering them as they go.

Following the deconstruction, the even harder job began, accurately and precisely rebuilding the tower in its new home.

However, members of the public may now recognise the silhouette which overlooks the town as the project’s most recent update saw the structure’s roof be hoisted into place.

A spokesperson for Bude-Stratton Town Council said: “As we stand on the cusp of a momentous achievement, Bude-Stratton Town Council is excited to share the latest updates on the ongoing Compass Point Storm Tower Project. While the tower is not yet fully complete, we have successfully navigated through crucial phases, bringing us closer to the grand unveiling.

“Recent highlights include the meticulous reinstatement of compass point stones, the placement of the final stonework and the precision pouring and setting of the ring beam—an essential foundation for the impending roof structure.

“The visual transformation is now taking shape, with the steel roof frame recently winched into position, offering a glimpse of the tower's familiar silhouette.

“This marks a significant step forward in the final stages of the project, and we anticipate the completion of the Compass Point Storm Tower early in the new year.”
