A member of Bude’s Surf Life Saving Club has taken home the gold at one of the UK’s biggest lifesaving competitions.
Jamie Peterson, club member at Bude Surf Lifesaving Club, took home first place in the men’s open board race at this year’s OceanPerf UK Challenge.
The OceanPerf UK Challenge is an extension of the French event, which sees athletes, young, old, learning and experienced take on a variety of sea-based lifesaving races.
Jamie, who is currently ‘on loan’ to Bude Surf Life Saving Club from Omaha Beach Surf Life Saving Club in New Zealand, claimed first place in the ‘men’s open board race’ at the event in Branksome Chine last week.
Jamie is one of five international lifeguards applying their trade to Bude’s beaches this summer.
He has also been sharing his skills with members by giving up his time and running a number of training sessions.
