A GROUP in Bude are appealing for the public’s help after thousands of pounds worth of surfing equipment was stolen.

Freewave Surf Academy have asked residents to be vigilant after its trailer containing vital surfing equipment was stolen on March 31.

A spokesperson from the group said: “We’re devastated to share that our stand-up paddleboard trailer was stolen from The Crescent Car Park, Bude sometime on Saturday or Sunday evening.

“The trailer is very large, approximately 15 feet long and 8 feet high, and is easily recognisable with our surf school signage. It also features The Bude Way branding from the Bude Climate Partnership on the back.”

According to the owners, inside the trailer were around 15 paddleboards, along with paddles and wetsuits, ready ahead of the Easter Holidays and the start of the group’s second year of Bude SUP Club.

Owners have explained that the while the resale value of the items is estimated to be around £6,000, it would cost the group upwards of £10,000 to replace it all with new gear.

The spokesperson continued: “If you have any information, saw it being towed, or noticed anything unusual in the area, please get in touch. Even small details could be invaluable in helping us check doorbell or CCTV footage.”

The incident has also been reported to Devon and Cornwall Police.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Police were notified following the theft of a trailer from the Wharf car park in Bude believed to have taken place overnight between Sunday, March, 30 and Monday, March 31.

“Enquiries are ongoing.

“Anybody with information of relevant footage is asked to contact police on 101 or via our website quoting 50250079972”
