ONE of Bude’s biggest charitable weekends has raised a massive five-figure sum for the RNLI.

Each year, residents from across North Cornwall come together for a weekend of fun, games and community in Bude to raise money for the town’s RNLI.

From August 23 to 26, the town hosted a variety of events hoping to shine a spotlight on the vital work done by volunteers across the country.

Some of what’s planned includes the Rotary duck race, Morris dancing, plenty of live music and even some rowing races.

This week, Bude Lifeboat has revealed the grand total that was raised during the three-day event.

A spokesperson for Bude RNLI Lifeboat said: “Whilst it seems like an age since Lifeboat Weekend, we can now announce that 2024 was an outstanding year with a total in excess of £42,000 raised.”

The massive sum has been made even more meaningful given the 2024 celebrations marked 200 years of the RNLI.

The spokesperson added: “This is an amazing result, a record year and is a wonderful way to celebrate 200 years of the RNLI!”

With so many involved in this year’s event, hosting a variety of activities and performances, the organisation has thanked all those who assisted in putting on the show.

They said: “We would like to thank all those who contributed to the weekend including all the local individuals and businesses that have provided sponsorship and donated money/prizes - we could not run Lifeboat Weekend without your support!

“We would also like to recognise and thank the outgoing Lifeboat weekend organising team who are stepping down this year – they have made Lifeboat Weekend the premier summer event in Bude raising a huge amount for the RNLI over many years.”
