The holiday park, which is run by UK staycations operator Away Resorts, is committed to supporting the conservation of its beautiful Cornish coastline and beaches, including through partnerships with Keep Britain Tidy and Friends of Bude Sea Pool (FoBSP).
FoBSP is a charity that works to preserve, improve, and enhance the historic Sea Pool at Summerleaze Beach, Bude. This semi-natural amenity has provided a haven for free and safe bathing and other water-based activities since the 1930s.
In addition to its tireless volunteering work, FoBSP raises funds by selling products such as swim caps, towels and body boards.
Last year, to help raise funds for the charity, Bude Holiday Resort made the decision to hire out the body boards to its guests – providing the opportunity to hire not buy, and thus saving waste from being left on local beaches.
The initiative raised £901.54 from 400 guest hires, with the money going to both Keep Britain Tidy and FoBSP.
With 21 locations across the UK, Away Resorts has become a leader in environmental sustainability. Last year the company accelerated its investments in conservation, including a partnership with marine charity Surfers Against Sewage, and a new business mission that saw Away Resorts receive the coveted title of Plastic Free Business Champion.
Jason Hopkins, general manager at Bude Holiday Resort, said: “Bude Sea Pool is one of many stunning local attractions that our guests can enjoy, so we understand how important it is to preserve our beautiful landscape, both for current and future generations. We are delighted to have supported Keep Britain Tidy and Friends of Bude Sea Pool with this fantastic body board hire scheme, and I’m very proud of the Bude Holiday Resort team for getting behind the initiative.”
Carl Castledine, CEO of Away Resorts, said: “At Away Resorts, we’re keen to champion environmental sustainability and support charities who share this mission. All of us here at Away Resorts are pleased to see that through this innovative fundraising scheme, our very own Bude Holiday Resort have managed to raise just under £1,000 for Keep Britain Tidy and FoBSP, two very worthy causes.”
