TIDYING up their village, fifteen volunteers, some as young as five, braved a wet Saturday morning to collect rubbish from the Chilsworthy area.

As part of the Chilsworthy Village Clean Up, organised by Holsworthy hamlets parish council, on Saturday, April 2, 15 locals picked up their litter picking tools and collected rubbish to tidy up their village.

Those who attended and braved a wet morning to come out and clean up their village were Rob Hore, Martin Gainsbury, Ruby Martin, Tim Penny, Evelyn Sharman, Martin Hacker, Alastair Clements, Richard Foster, Adam Foster aged five, Eleanor Foster aged seven and Holsworthy Hamlets Parish Council chairman Ray Fursdon.

Also joining in the litter pick, but who are not pictured, were Rose Shadrick, Colin Shadrick, Evelyn Shadrick and Julia Foster.

The volunteers were treated to bacon rolls and hot dogs in the Village Hall once they’d finished working. Thanks were extended to David and Christine Campbell for cooking the food.

Parish council clerk, Julia Foster said: “We were very pleased that so many people gave up their time, despite the miserable weather, to come and join in cleaning up the village.

“It was amazing to see just how much rubbish the volunteers collected up and the cold workers were well rewarded with hot food on their return.”

The parish council is organising a second village clean-up event on April 9, in Staddon Road.
