THE ‘last village’ in Devon was a kaleidoscope of colour and fun as its community came together for the annual carnival.
Bradworthy Carnival was a resounding success, with judges facing a tough decision on the prizes on offer amid fierce but friendly competition among those entering the event.
Joining the traditional display of carnival royalty from neighbouring town and villages was an explosion of creativity with displays ranging from Teletubbies to a ploughing match.
A spokesperson for the organising committee described the floats which took part as ‘amazing’ and added afterwards: “Thanks to everyone who made such a fantastic effort.”
In the topical category, the Pirates of the Carribean float took first honours.
In the hotly contested family float category, Bradworthy Toddlers’ Trolls took first place, with Youlstone Table Top Football and Bradworthy Young Rovers a creditable second and third place respectively.
In the Y.F.C (youth football club) category, Buckland Brewer YFC came out on top with their Jurassic Park themed display, with the Woolsery Wonkas of Woolsery YFC and Noahs Ark of Bradworthy YFC taking second and third spots.
Mr Men and Little Miss won first place in the vintage vehicle category, with Bradworthy ploughing match second, while in the trade category, Harpers Feed won out in a tight contest against Wickett’s garage.
Brea Royalty won first place in the Best Royalty Float category, with Southgate Royalty coming in second and Holsworthy Royalty taking third place.
In the Medley Cup, it was first place for Chicken Run with the Teletubbies coming second, while in the Under 16 walkers category, Gesar Karate Club came out on top with Lassie in second.
The Day of the Dead display won the wheeled and mounted category, while the Chicken Run display also took top honours in the best overall float category.
